Greta Lestrange was born to Peter and Wendy Collins on May 19, 1959, in the isolated Muggle community of Stewart, British Columbia, near the Alaskan border. Her parents divorced six years after she was born, with Wendy getting custody of Greta. Wendy moved to Nelson, British Columbia, and a long series of regrettable incidents ended with ten-year old Greta being taken out of the custody of her mother, and into the custody of the state. At this point, however, it came to the attention of authorities that Greta was magical, and so she was placed with a wizarding foster family in Sandon, British Columbia, who later adopted her.

Greta was clever enough never to volunteer any information about her past, and the same went for her family, leaving it generally supposed that she was a pureblood. After finishing school, she took an entry level position with the Ministry of Magic. She was still trying to decide what to actually do with her life when, at a party in 1978, she met a young English wizard named Rabastan Lestrange. He aspired to be a journalist, but wasn't getting there very quickly. There was duct tape involved. They left the party enthralled with each other, and got married three weeks later.

Unfortunately, Rabastan's big journalistic break-through consisted of sending a news release via CMP (Canadian Magical Press) that the United States was about to invade Canada. He was deported back to Britain in early 1981, and Greta supressed her desire to kill him long enough to acquire a new post in the Department of Magical Transportation at the British Ministry of Magic.

She was not too keen to discover her in-laws, whom Rabastan had thoughtfully forgot to mention, but soon discovered the delights of messing with the minds and emotions of her new circle. She is a woman who stakes just a little too much on her own amusement. The results are sometimes disastrous.
